Description:
Under the direction of the Public Safety Director/Police Chief, this position is responsible for performing a variety of duties involved in the investigation of potential violations and the enforcement of municipal codes, ordinances, building codes, and regulations. Identifies and solves a variety of quality-of-life issues categorized as nuisances and other incivilities of a community concern. Police Officer's lives or personal safety are placed at risk.
Duties:

Perform duties that actively prevent or detect crime and enforce criminal statutes or ordinances of the state of Utah or any of its political subdivisions.
- Respond to situations involving threats to public safety and make emergency decisions affecting the lives and health of others.
- Perform duties that consist of providing community protection.

Provide a high level of customer service at all times; project and maintain a positive image on behalf of Springville City.

Work and act as a team player.

Investigate complaints of violations and periodically patrol or inspect areas of the City to monitor violations.
- Must know and understand all applicable Springville City Codes.

Issue voluntary compliance agreements, notices of violation, citations, correction notices, and other notices to ensure compliance.

Maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other City departments to find appropriate solutions to problems; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Conduct follow-up investigations to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.

Maintain files and records related to citations and violations; prepare a variety of written reports, memoranda, and correspondence.

Assist the administrative Sergeant with supervision of the crossing guards.

Participate as assigned in community-oriented policing activities.

Assist patrol as needed.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of directly related experience in inspection, law enforcement, building inspection, land use or public administration preferred.
- Code Enforcement Officer I: Must have successfully completed and be SFO (Special Function Officer) Utah POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified.

Code Enforcement Officer II: Must have successfully completed and be LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) Utah POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certified and completed one (1) year experience as a sworn Law Enforcement Officer, on patrol.

Must possess a valid Utah Driver License.
- Must be able to successfully pass drug screen, physical, and background check.
- Must annually pass and maintain Utah POST physical fitness standards.
- Must attend a minimum of forty (40) hours of P.O.S.T. training per year and complete a minimum of twenty (20) hours of land use law training per year.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb, walk, lift, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and lift up to 50lbs. Work is performed mostly in field settings. Considerable outdoor work is required.
