Position Summary
The Director of Program Management is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and execution of the organization’s programs and services. This position provides strategic direction, monitors program performance, and works closely with customers and internal teams to ensure programs are completed successfully.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing complex programs, leading cross-functional teams, maintaining program schedules and budgets, mitigating risk, and managing customer relationships within aerospace, defense, aviation, or a related manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish the strategic direction of programs and services in collaboration with executive leadership and other program managers.
- Coordinate and monitor program schedules, pricing, budgets, technical performance, and contractual requirements.
- Maintain responsibility for program profitability, budget adherence, and overall financial performance.
- Track and monitor program costs and identify opportunities to improve performance.
- Develop and maintain program master plans, schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
- Identify program risks and develop effective risk-mitigation strategies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding program status, requirements, concerns, and issue resolution.
- Maintain routine customer communication and involve executive leadership when appropriate.
- Assist with the preparation of proposals, program plans, specifications, budgets, and contract terms.
- Support contract preparation and negotiations by evaluating financial conditions, available resources, and contractual requirements.
- Direct the work of employees assigned to programs and projects.
- Provide guidance to program teams regarding projects, priorities, responsibilities, and operations.
- Prepare and present program status reports, performance updates, and executive-level presentations.
- Support business development efforts and opportunities to expand products, services, and customer relationships.
- Stay informed of developing technologies, industry trends, and program-management best practices.
- Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities
This position leads employees who report directly to the Director of Program Management and is responsible for their hiring, development, performance evaluation, and other employment-related decisions.
The Director also manages supervisors and provides guidance regarding staffing, employee performance, and significant employment actions involving their respective teams.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated success in program scheduling, cost control, financial management, and risk management.
- Experience managing complex programs and cross-functional teams.
- Working knowledge of project and program management principles, processes, and performance-measurement tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
- Aerospace, defense, aviation, or complex manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or Program Management Professional (PgMP) certification is required.
- Candidates who are not currently certified must be willing and able to complete the applicable certification within six months of hire.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, negotiation, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with customers, executives, and cross-functional teams.
- Must qualify as a U.S. person under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), as defined in 22 CFR § 120.62.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position primarily works in an office environment and frequently involves sedentary work. The employee may also be required to stand, walk, reach, use their hands, communicate verbally, and review written documents and computer screens.
Specific vision abilities include sufficient visual acuity to read documents, review computer monitors, and accurately complete required documentation.

Schedule
This is a full-time position operating Monday through Thursday, with four 10-hour shifts each week. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on business and program needs.
Travel
Occasional travel is required. Travel may include overnight trips, travel outside the local area, and occasional international travel.
