Position Summary
This role is focused on supporting the billing and revenue cycle operations of a small outpatient therapy practice. The core responsibility is ensuring that insurance claims, payments, and patient accounts are accurately managed and followed through to resolution.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving insurance billing problems, keeping accounts organized, and ensuring providers are paid accurately and promptly.
Day-to-day billing functions such as claim submission and payment posting are already in place. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the follow-through work in the revenue cycle—primarily denied claims, outstanding balances, payment discrepancies, and insurance follow-up that requires focused investigation and resolution.
This role will begin at approximately 4–8 hours per week with a flexible schedule. Hours may increase as the practice grows.
Responsibilities
Insurance Billing & Revenue Cycle
- Submit insurance claims accurately and in a timely manner
- Monitor claim status and resolve denied or delayed claims
- Research and resolve billing discrepancies
- Follow up with insurance companies regarding unpaid or partially paid claims
- Reconcile insurance payments and identify missing payments
- Manage secondary insurance claims and coordination of benefits
- Track and reduce outstanding accounts receivable
- Maintain accurate billing records within the electronic health record
Patient Billing
- Post client payments
- Generate patient statements
- Follow up on outstanding patient balances professionally and respectfully
- Assist with payment plans and billing questions as needed
Reporting
- Prepare a monthly revenue cycle summary for the practice owner
- Track key billing metrics, including:
- Accounts receivable aging
- Outstanding claims
- Denial trends
- Claim turnaround times
- Collections by payer
- Identify recurring billing issues and surface patterns or concerns that may need workflow adjustments or follow-up.Qualifications
Required
- Experience with medical billing (behavioral health experience strongly preferred)
- Experience working with commercial insurance claims
- Strong problem-solving and investigative skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- High level of discretion and professionalism
Preferred
- Experience with outpatient mental health billing
- Familiarity with SimplePractice
- Experience using Availity or other payer portals
- Knowledge of Washington commercial insurance plans
- Experience managing accounts receivable and claim follow-up

Compensation & Benefits
- $26-36/hour, depending on experience
