The Port of Bellingham is a Washington State special purpose municipal corporation serving all of Whatcom County. It is a unique organization that makes significant contributions to the local community through leveraging its resources by directly participating in revenue-earning lines of business, as well as by capitalizing on its strategic assets through special public agency powers.
By using combined expertise in both the business and government sectors, the Port has a role in job preservation and job creation, as well as a role in the operation of transportation facilities for seaports and airports. JOB SUMMARY
The Seasonal Dock Attendant assists in daily operations at Blaine Harbor during the peak season by providing exceptional customer service to all Port patrons. Responsibilities include but are not limited to dockside customer service, facilities clean-up, and special projects as assigned by the Harbormaster. These responsibilities may at times be completed independently, or with the assistance of another Dock Attendant or Harbor Staff. Activities are generally routine and covered by established procedures, practices, or processes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide excellent, friendly customer service around the Harbor.

Conduct frequent dock checks to verify vessels occupying moorage spaces.

Maintain cleanliness and safety of marina docks, walkways, restrooms, parking lots, and garbage/recycling areas.

Assist in docking of incoming vessels by catching lines.

Perform daily walkthroughs to assess items in need of repair by Port Maintenance team.

Assist Port Staff with a variety of Port equipment including the Harbor skiff, forklifts, sanitary pump-outs, pressure washer and emergency pumps.

Assist Harbor staff with dock washing.

Assist Harbor staff with account and inventory research.

Come to work on time, well-groomed, and dressed appropriately.

Must be able to work weekends and holidays.

Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSPreferred:

Experience in customer service is preferred.
LICENSES REQUIRED

Valid Washington State driver’s license is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
-
Must have a good attitude and pleasant demeanor when interacting with customers and staff.

Knowledge of Marina operations, small boat handling, and commercial fishing or local cruising is desired.

Strong knowledge of the Blaine area and surrounding communities and attractions.

Ability to hear alarms and audibly identify dangers or hazards.

Experience in custodial/janitorial service is desirable.

Must possess the ability to act as an ambassador to the community.

Curiosity and interest in learning and applying new skills

Must have the ability to hear, speak, and understand the spoken English word.
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY
Position is responsible for specified tasks within the department and does not supervise the work of other employees. Position may be responsible for representing the Port to the public on a regular basis.
