PARTS RUNNER
Role Description
The Parts Runner plays a key support role, ensuring the efficient flow of parts and supplies within the business. Their responsibilities combine elements of logistics, customer service, and basic warehouse work, tailored to the unique needs of an automotive environment.
Core Responsibilities:
· Pulling / Delivering Parts: The primary duty is to pull/deliver automotive parts—either from the salvage yard’s inventory or newly ordered—from the warehouse or yard to technicians, customers, or other repair shops promptly and accurately.
· Retrieving Parts: Parts runners may also be tasked with locating, identifying, and retrieving specific auto parts from vehicles in the yard, often based on work orders or customer requests.
· Inventory Support: They help keep the parts department organized and stocked, update inventory records, and may assist with labeling and tagging parts for tracking and quality assurance.
· General Yard and Shop Assistance: Duties often include cleaning and maintaining the parts department, disposing of packaging and trash, sweeping floors, and sometimes helping move vehicles or push non-running cars into the shop.
· Transport and Errands: Parts runners may be responsible for making runs to local stores for parts, making bank deposits, delivering mail, or transporting documents as needed.
· Customer Service: They may interact with customers, assisting with parts pick-up or providing rides when vehicles are in for service.
· Documentation: Completing paperwork related to parts transactions, ensuring accuracy in delivery and inventory processes.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have an active driver license, preferably a chauffeur’s license
- Product knowledge and the ability to identify automotive parts
- Ability to lift and move heavy parts (often up to 50-75 lbs).
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Basic automotive knowledge is helpful, especially in a salvage yard setting.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Strong communication skills for working with technicians, customers, and vendors.
- Ability to work in physically demanding and sometimes noisy or hazardous environments
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED equivalent required
- Prior experience driving and making deliveries
- Basic computer knowledge and computer/tablet experience, ability to multi task.
- Experience in the automotive industry is a plus
Work Schedule:
· Monday – Saturday – during normal business operations
