Position Summary:
The Front-End Engineer is responsible for reviewing and validating manufacturing documentation—including BOM, MPI, and DFA reports—prior to releasing jobs to production. This role ensures all data is accurate, complete, and manufacturable to prevent issues during assembly.
Key Responsibilities:
· Review BOM:
- Verify part numbers, quantities, and descriptions match customer data
- Identify missing parts, alternates, and high-risk components
· Review MPI (Manufacturing Process Instruction):
- Confirm correct process flow (SMT, wave, selective solder, hand solder, test)
- Ensure all special instructions are clearly defined (reball, glue, fixture, programming, etc.)
- Check for missing or unclear steps before release
· Review DFA / Customer Requirements:
- Identify potential risks such as tight spacing, polarity issues, fine-pitch parts
- Flag concerns like solder bridging, tombstoning, or component shifting
· Stencil Review & Modification:
- Review stencil design and aperture openings for manufacturability
- Recommend modifications (e.g., aperture reduction, windowpane, home plate, or step stencil) to prevent defects such as solder bridging, insufficient solder, or component shift
- Coordinate with engineering or stencil vendors to implement required changes
· Cross-functional coordination:
- Work with CS, Planning, and Production teams to resolve issues before job release
- Follow up on open items until closure
· Documentation check:
- Ensure full job package is complete (BOM, Gerber, centroid, MPI, drawings, notes)
- Maintain correct revision control
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field) or equivalent experience
- 2–5+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing / PCB assembly environment
- Strong understanding of:
- BOM structure and component validation
- Stencil design and modification.
- PCB assembly processes (SMT, through-hole, reflow, wave, selective solder)
- Common assembly issues (bridge, shift, polarity, missing parts)
- Manufacturing documentation (MPI, work instructions, drawings)
- Experience reviewing Gerber files, schematics, and assembly drawings is a plus
- Familiarity with DFA/DFM principles
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to identify risks before production and propose solutions
- Good communication and cross-functional coordination
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple jobs
- Experience with ERP systems is a plus
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in contract manufacturing (CM) environment
- Background in NPI or pre-production engineering
- Hands-on assembly or process engineering experience is a plus
