Great Western Cyclery & E-Bikes is seeking an experienced, skilled, and passionate Bicycle Shop Manager to join our team in Bountiful, Utah.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who loves bicycles, enjoys working with people, and takes pride in doing quality work. The Shop Manager will lead and develop our talented Service Team while also working alongside our mechanics and turning the wrench.
Our shop has experienced 20%+ year-over-year growth for the past three years in a stagnant market, driven by our reputation for excellent service, quality work, extensive e-bike knowledge, fast turnaround times, and positive customer experiences.
The Shop Manager is an integral part of our operations, customer satisfaction, and the face of our business. We are looking for someone who can lead a team, solve problems, keep the department running efficiently, and provide the high level of technical expertise and customer service our customers have come to expect.
About the Role
The Bicycle Shop Manager will oversee the daily operations of our Service Department and lead our team of mechanics. This is a working manager position—you will spend significant time managing the team and workflow while also diagnosing, repairing, building, and servicing bicycles and e-bikes.
The ideal candidate is an experienced bicycle mechanic who has some management or leadership experience and is ready to take the next step in their career. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, communicating with customers, mentoring employees, and jumping in to help get the job done.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Service Department Management
- Manage and lead the team of mechanics in all aspects of the Service Department.
- Train, mentor, educate, and develop team members.
- Establish and maintain high standards for workmanship, customer service, efficiency, and productivity.
- Help manage service workflow and maintain our fast turnaround times.
- Create, implement, and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to improve efficiency, consistency, and productivity.
- Hold team members accountable to established standards while maintaining a positive and supportive work environment.
- Help identify opportunities to improve processes and the overall customer experience.
- Manage the cleanliness, organization, and professional appearance of the workshop.
- Manage inventory of service parts, supplies, and tools.
Hands-On Bicycle & E-Bike Service
This is a hands-on position. The Shop Manager will also turn the wrench and perform repairs and service as needed, including:
- Diagnose and repair a wide range of bicycle issues.
- Diagnose and repair e-bike electronic, electrical, and power systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electronic problems.
- Service and repair brakes, drivetrains, headsets, wheels, hubs, tires, suspension systems, and other bicycle components.
- Perform routine maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, wheel truing, brake bleeds, shifting adjustments, brake adjustments, suspension service, and more.
- Build and assemble new bicycles, including custom builds and primarily e-bikes.
- Perform quality-control inspections and ensure completed work meets our standards.
- Stay current with evolving bicycle and e-bike technology, components, and diagnostic procedures.
Customer Service & Sales
- Provide expert advice and recommendations to customers regarding bicycle maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and service.
- Clearly explain technical issues and repair recommendations to customers in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Help customers understand their service options and make informed decisions.
- Assist with customer service and sales as needed.
- Handle customer concerns and service issues professionally and find solutions that maintain customer trust.
- Represent Great Western Cyclery & E-Bikes as a knowledgeable, friendly, and professional ambassador for the business.
Qualifications
- Previous management, supervisory, or team leadership experience.
- Proven professional experience as a bicycle mechanic.
- Strong knowledge of bicycle mechanics, components, and repair techniques.
- Ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of bicycle issues.
- Strong understanding of e-bike systems and electronic troubleshooting preferred.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively train, mentor, and work with other mechanics.
- Ability to work independently while also being an effective team leader and team member.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift and move bicycles, e-bikes, parts, and equipment weighing 50+ pounds.

Bonus Points
The following experience is a plus:
- Experience working with both premium and value-priced e-bicycles.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing multiple e-bike drive systems and electronic components.
- Certifications in bicycle repair or maintenance.
- Experience with bicycle fitting.
- Experience with custom bicycle builds and customization.
- Experience with suspension service and advanced bicycle repair.
- Experience working with a wide variety of bicycle brands and components.

Great Western Cyclery & E-Bikes is a locally owned and operated bicycle shop in Bountiful, Utah, with a primary focus on e-bicycles since opening 11 years ago.
We specialize in helping customers understand the rapidly evolving world of e-bikes and finding the right bicycle for their riding style, needs, and budget. We represent a wide range of premium e-bike brands, including Amflow, Bulls, Cannondale, Gazelle, Giant, Norco, and Santa Cruz, along with value-focused brands such as Segway, Troxus, and Velotric.
This gives our customers the opportunity to experience and compare a broad selection of e-bikes at different price points.
While e-bikes are a major focus of our business, our Service Department is a full-service bicycle repair facility. We work on all types of bicycles and electric bicycles of almost all brands, shapes, and sizes.
Our Service Team takes great pride in maintaining high standards of workmanship while providing customers with a fast and convenient experience. Our typical service turnaround time is approximately two business days, unless parts need to be ordered.
