Overview
Job Summary
The Lead Polysomnographic Technologist provides clinical leadership and technical expertise within the Sleep Disorders Center. This position oversees daily operations, ensures high-quality patient care, assists with staff scheduling and training, maintains equipment, and supports accreditation and compliance efforts. The Lead Tech also performs diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies according to established protocols and physician orders.
Required Population Served
Job Responsibilities
Supervise and support sleep technologists to ensure adherence to AASM and institutional standards.
Serve as the on-site clinical resource for troubleshooting complex sleep study issues.
Perform and score HSTs, polysomnographic studies, CPAP/BiPAP titrations, MSLTs, and MWTs as needed.
Assist in hiring, onboarding, and competency validation for new staff.
Provide continuing education, coaching, and performance feedback to technologists.
Assist with development and maintain staff schedules ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.
Ensure compliance with AASM, CMS, and hospital policies.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, data collection, and policy updates.
Maintain calibration, maintenance, and documentation for sleep lab equipment.
Ensure patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality throughout the testing process.
Explain procedures and address patient questions or concerns.
Monitor and respond to physiological events and technical issues during studies.
Assist in preparation for accreditation surveys and audits.
Coordinate with physicians, DME providers, and respiratory therapy as needed.
Help with supply inventory, ordering, and budget tracking.

Experience

3–5 years of experience as an RPSGT
Previous supervisory or lead experience preferred
Education

Graduate of an accredited polysomnographic technology program or equivalent education/experience.

Basic computer literacy skills.

Proficiency with sleep study software (e.g., Cadwell, ResMed, Nonin).

Licensure

Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) required
Current BLS certification required.
