Medical Coder – Outpatient (Multispecialty) & Emergency Department
Verve, LLC is continually accepting applications for experienced Medical Coders specializing in Outpatient (Multispecialty) and Emergency Department coding. We are seeking detail-oriented professionals who are committed to coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, and delivering high-quality work in a collaborative environment.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated hands-on experience coding a broad range of outpatient encounters, including day surgery, anesthesia, emergency department, observation, and specialty clinic visits. Experience accurately assigning Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels across multiple specialties is strongly preferred.
This position is responsible for assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, applicable coding guidelines, payer requirements, and organizational policies while maintaining the confidentiality and security of protected health information.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with official coding guidelines and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Accurately code a variety of outpatient encounters, including day surgery, anesthesia, emergency department, observation, and specialty clinic services.
- Assign accurate Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels, with the ability to apply E/M coding guidelines across multiple specialties.
- Review clinical documentation to ensure complete and accurate code assignment and identify documentation deficiencies when appropriate.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards established by Verve, LLC and the client.
- Comply with all applicable federal, state, client, and organizational policies related to coding, documentation, privacy, and security.
- Protect the confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) in accordance with applicable laws and company policies.
- Participate in quality assurance activities, education, and training as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Current Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of professional medical coding experience in a general acute care hospital (inpatient and/or outpatient) or multispecialty physician practice.
- Demonstrated experience coding outpatient encounters, including emergency department, observation, day surgery, anesthesia, and specialty clinic services.
- Experience assigning Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels; experience across multiple specialties is preferred.
- Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, Official Coding Guidelines, and applicable Coding Clinic guidance.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to coding accuracy.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting productivity and quality expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional coding certifications are a plus.
- Experience supporting federal healthcare programs or government contracts is preferred.
- Experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems and encoder software.
