Duties
- Perform comprehensive inspections and diagnostics on school buses, including engine systems, transmissions, brakes, suspension, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Conduct repairs using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and specialized automotive diagnostic tools to address mechanical and electrical issues efficiently.
- Maintain and repair heavy equipment such as forklifts, excavators, cranes, and farm machinery to ensure operational readiness.
- Fabricate parts or components as needed using welding techniques and schematics to support vehicle repairs or modifications.
- Service and replace tires, shocks & struts, air brakes, and perform wheel alignments to ensure safety standards are met.
- Troubleshoot complex vehicle systems including HVAC systems, diesel engines, powertrains, and vehicle electrical wiring.
- Keep detailed maintenance logs, service records, and inspection reports to track work performed and schedule future maintenance tasks.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a mechanic with School Bus experience preferred; familiarity with light duty repair is highly valued.
- Strong background in automotive diagnostics, mechanical systems repair, hydraulics, air brake systems, and electrical system troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of schematics for vehicle wiring diagrams and mechanical systems is essential for accurate diagnostics.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other maintenance machinery required for complex repairs.
- Experience with diesel mechanics including engine repair and transmission servicing is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining high standards of quality in vehicle maintenance tasks.
