TMS Technician / Patient Care Specialist — Interventional Psychiatry Practice
Richmond Brain & Behavior is a growing interventional psychiatry practice specializing in advanced, evidence-based treatments for depression and other psychiatric conditions — including TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation), Spravato (esketamine), IV ketamine, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management. We are hiring a part-time TMS Technician (about 15–20 hours per week, five mornings a week) who will own the day-to-day operation of our TMS program. This role is expected to grow into a full-time position as the practice expands, so we are looking for someone who wants to grow with us.
In this role, you are the person who runs the TMS machine. You will independently set up, position, and operate the TMS system for every treatment session — locating the treatment site, adjusting coil placement, delivering the prescribed protocol, monitoring the patient throughout, and documenting each session. TMS delivery is the core of this job. Because we are a small practice, you will also be cross-trained to support the front desk and other treatments (Spravato, IV ketamine) between TMS sessions, so the practice runs smoothly no matter who is in.
If you are precise, dependable, calm under pressure, and want to be hands-on with the technology that changes patients’ lives, we want to hear from you.
What you’ll do
- Operate the TMS machine for daily treatment sessions — set up and calibrate the device, position the coil, deliver the provider-prescribed protocol, and run each session start to finish
- Administer treatment under provider orders, including assisting with motor-threshold determination and applying the prescribed stimulation parameters
- Monitor patients during and after TMS, watch for and respond to side effects, and follow safety and emergency protocols
- Build rapport with a daily TMS patient panel — most patients come in five days a week for several weeks, so consistency and a reassuring presence matter
- Document every session accurately in the EHR, including parameters, tolerability, and patient progress
- Maintain and troubleshoot TMS equipment; keep treatment rooms clean, stocked, and ready
- Support Spravato and IV ketamine treatments and cover front-desk duties — check-in/out, scheduling, and payments — between sessions
- Verify insurance benefits and complete prior authorizations for TMS and other treatments
What we’re looking for
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
- 1–2 years of experience in a medical, behavioral health, or clinical setting
- Direct experience operating a TMS device (NeuroStar, Brainsway, MagVenture, or similar) strongly preferred; we will fully train the right candidate
- Proficiency with EHR/EMR systems and medical scheduling software
- Experience processing prior authorizations
- Strong attention to detail, reliable, and warm with patients
- CPR and BLS certification preferred
Pay & benefits
$21–$27/hr depending on experience. Candidates with hands-on TMS device experience who need no training can expect the higher end of the range. Paid time off, possibility of some remote hours, and paid training included. Clear path to full-time as the practice grows.
Schedule: Monday–Friday mornings, approximately 15–20 hours/week. Reliable attendance across all five mornings is essential — TMS patients are seen every weekday throughout their course of treatment.
Location: On-site, Richmond, VA (Northside / 23228).
