Assistant Project Manager

Position Overview
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the Project Manager in coordinating and executing construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. The role supports the PM and field teams with estimating, scheduling, document control, cost tracking, subcontractor coordination, quality control, and communication to ensure successful project delivery. APMs support multiple concurrent projects of varying size and complexity and are expected to exercise sound judgment in the day-to-day administration of the project. APMs also mentor and help manage Project Engineers and Project Coordinators.
Key Responsibilities
General Project Support
- Support PM team in all phases of the project, including sales, preconstruction/estimating/bidding, construction, and closeout.
- Maintain all RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and project documentation expeditiously, accurately, and thoroughly.
- Communicate regularly with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, Owners, and design teams.
- Participate in OAC and Subcontractor meetings and prepare meeting minutes. Assist with quality control and safety compliance efforts.
Preconstruction / Estimating
- Participate in preconstruction efforts on project opportunities.
- Assist with constructability reviews of drawings, specifications, and Owner provided documents.
- Support development of preliminary construction schedules.
- Help create bid lists, bid scopes, and manage the bid/proposal process.
- Review subcontractor bids for scope gaps, clarifications, exclusions, and pricing validation.
- Review prime contract requirements and ensure subcontractor bid documents reflect necessary conditions.
Construction
- Participate in and take minutes for OAC and Subcontractor Coordination Meetings.
- Manage project logs in conjunction with the PE.
- Track material submittals and deliveries with the PE.
- Review weekly labor and cost reports; support ongoing cost forecasting.
- Assist with pricing, analyzing, validating, and processing Owner and Subcontractor change orders.
- Walk job sites regularly to understand project conditions and support field coordination.
- Assist in resolving critical issues, RFIs, or any items affecting cost or schedule.
- Maintain strong relationships with Owners, subcontractors, and design team members.
- Manage smaller projects commensurate with skill set and experience.
Project Closeout
- Assist PM and manage PE to ensure timely and complete project closeout.
- Support closeout documentation, warranty info, and turnover packages.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
- General understanding of architectural, structural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, and fire protection systems.
- General knowledge of estimating.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Tools & Systems Used
- RedTeam Go/Procore — Daily reports, RFIs, submittals, change orders, owner and subcontractor billing, estimating, insurance tracking, and subcontractor contacts.
- Bluebeam — Document review, plan analysis, and markups.
- Microsoft Office Suite — Used across all project functions.
- Outbuild — scheduling software.
Other Typical Duties
- Assist with procurement, including soliciting bids and reviewing proposals.
- Support implementation of quality control and safety measures onsite.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of project delivery processes.
- Assist with generating, updating and maintaining project schedules.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
