Duties
- Safely operate school buses in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations.
- Ensure the safety of all passengers by following emergency response procedures for transportation and implementing passenger safety protocols.
- Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus and managing behavior to maintain discipline.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to verify vehicle condition, including checking brakes, lights, signals, and emergency equipment.
- Respond quickly to traffic changes, road hazards, or unexpected delays while maintaining communication with dispatch or supervisors.
- Follow school policies regarding student conduct and discipline, ensuring a respectful environment onboard.
- Complete accurate logs of routes driven, passenger counts, incidents, and maintenance issues as required.
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or school bus operation with knowledge of transportation safety regulations.
- Strong understanding of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency stop procedures, and state/local commercial driving laws.
- Excellent communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse student populations.
- Ability to respond swiftly to traffic changes or emergencies using defensive driving techniques and emergency response procedures.
- Knowledge of student behavior management strategies and experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable.
- Comfortable performing vehicle inspections and maintenance checks.
- Exceptional customer service skills to foster positive interactions with students, parents, staff, and community members.
- Familiarity with behavior management practices is advantageous.
