POSITION SUMMARY:
The Food Runner is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of food orders from the kitchen to members and guests. This role supports both kitchen and service teams by coordinating food delivery, maintaining presentation standards, and helping ensure an exceptional dining experience. The Food Runner assists with the delivery of all menu items, including appetizers, salads, entrées, desserts, and other requested items, while upholding quality, temperature, and service standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Key Tasks and Responsibilities)
- Arrive to work on time, in proper uniform, and prepared to perform assigned duties. Maintain professional appearance, personal hygiene, and cleanliness standards throughout each shift.
- Set up and maintain the food service station with the necessary equipment, plateware, utensils, garnishes, and service items required for efficient food delivery. Monitor inventory and restock supplies as needed during service.
- Clean and organize trays, tray stands, and related service equipment to ensure readiness for meal service.
- Review and monitor food orders through the Kitchen Display System (KDS). Track preparation times and inspect completed dishes for accuracy, quality, presentation, and adherence to established standards.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with kitchen staff, including broil, pantry, and side stations, to ensure proper timing and delivery of hot and cold menu items.
- Complete final plate presentation and garnishing according to established recipes, specifications, and service standards. Promptly deliver food to maintain proper serving temperatures and quality.
- Deliver food accurately to designated tables and seating positions. Work collaboratively with service staff to ensure members and guests receive their meals promptly and efficiently.
- Support servers and other front-of-house team members as needed to enhance the overall dining experience.
- Perform all duties in compliance with company safety policies and procedures. Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, or hazards to the Chef, Manager on Duty, or other appropriate supervisor.
- Complete all assigned opening, running and closing duties
- Assist with kitchen cleaning, organization, and preparation for the next service period.
- Perform additional side work and operational tasks, functions and duties in both front-of-house and back-of-house areas to meet operational and member service needs
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- At least 2 years of experience in an upscale, high-volume restaurant, hospitality, or food service environment
- Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and other business-required shifts.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to quickly learn and apply operational procedures, menu knowledge, and service expectations.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes, preparation instructions, and service guidelines accurately.
- Current California Food Handler Card, ServSafe certification, or equivalent food safety certification as required by law.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to taste – to be able to distinguish between and among flavors, spices, temperatures, mouth feel and smell – to distinguish between and among odors and scents as to their appeal and level of intensity for all food and beverage products
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- This position works in a restaurant and event environment subject to extreme cold (30 degrees), heat (Temperatures above 100 degrees), loud noises from restaurant equipment and machinery, and fumes, odors, dust and smoke and requires standing and walking for extended periods, frequent bending and reaching, and regularly carrying or moving equipment and service items up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
