Position Summary
Provides and documents individualized patient care to include patient and personal safety, patient assessments in collaboration with the supervising RN or RT, patient re-assessments, triage, maintaining airway patency, IV access and hang IV fluids without additives, ECG interpretations, dysrhythmias recognition, places patients on defined oxygen delivering devices and assists with the application of skeletal traction/splints/immobilizers and other orthopedic equipment under the supervision of a Licensed Physician.

Location: 963 Lakeland Park Center Dr. Lakeland, FL
Shift: Pool, 5 shifts within a 6-week period
Qualifications:
- Successfully completed a Paramedic program.

Current certification as a Paramedic (PMD) in the State of Florida renewed every 2 years required.

Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification for healthcare providers.

Maintains current ACLS certification.
-
If appropriate, obtain and maintain PALS certification within one year of hire.
Responsibilities:
- Delivers patient care requiring advanced skills and judgment in the Emergency Department, Critical Care or Respiratory Department settings as directed by the appropriate Medical Director for specialty to include protocol orders or guidelines within approved current Paramedic competency.

The competency will not exceed the educational guidelines for a paramedic in the State of Florida.

The Florida paramedic practice model includes invasive and pharmacologic interventions intended to reduce morbidity and mortality in the pre-hospital environment.

It is expected that in the hospital setting where medical care and resources are readily available, this practice model will be modified.

Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse, Respiratory Therapist, and ED or Critical Care, Pulmonary providers or their designee and documents findings of care provided according to established guidelines.

Provides for the physical comfort and safety of patients, visitors, and members of the health care team including infection control and appropriate handling of hazardous materials.

Prioritizes and sequences work activities and delivery of medical care to patients that ensures the patient’s comfort, safety, and progress toward established goals.

Administers limited medications safely within the defined education guidelines and competencies.

Facilitates patient movement within the department and through the facility, proactively supporting timely admissions, discharges, and transfers.

Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.

Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

The Paramedic must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.

The individual must demonstrate a knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements related to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departments policies, procedures, and competencies.
