Job Summary
Jacksonville University invites applications for a non-tenured track Assistant Professor of Biology and Marine Science beginning in January 2026. The Department of Biology and Marine Science is seeking a marine vertebrate biologist with research interests in the fields of elasmobranch, marine mammal or sea turtle biology, ecology, and/or population dynamics. A specific focus in genetics, sensory biology, physiology, modeling, and/or GIS in research is preferred although other areas will be considered. The candidate must be qualified to teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to their area of research as well as introductory marine biology courses. Further, they must be able to teach online courses at the master’s degree level to support the MA/MS in Marine Science and MS in Marine Studies graduate programs. Teaching and research activities should encompass a combination of both field and laboratory activities. Successful candidates are expected to: 1) have a strong commitment to providing high-quality education with significant teacher/student interaction, 2) develop active grant-funded research involving undergraduates and graduate students, and 3) participate in Department, School, College, and University service. A Ph.D. or DVM is required by the time of appointment.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Teach classes with a typical load of 24 hours annually.
Develop an active research program related to the field of study.
Supervise undergraduate and graduate student research projects, internships, and other scholarly activities.
Participate in service at the department, school, college, and university level
Required Skills/Abilities:
Expected area of teaching, research, and mentorship, emphasis is in the field of marine vertebrate
biology. An ability to teach marine science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Must be able to teach online courses at the master’s degree level to support the graduate programs.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, and Experience:
Ph.D. in Marine Science or other related discipline or DVM
Undergraduate teaching experience in Marine Science is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and scientific equipment. Adequate
hearing to communicate effectively in person and virtually.
Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens Stamina to teach
up to 24 hours weekly. Combination of work indoors and outdoors Some off-campus travel may be required.
Work is performed under minimum supervision and requires incumbent to exercise independence and discretion.
