Schedule:
- Wednesday: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
- Thursday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Approximately 20 hours per week
Position Summary
We are seeking a qualified Drug & Alcohol Abuse Counselor (TEAP) to provide substance abuse prevention, intervention, counseling, and education services for students at the Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) Job Corps Center. This position plays an important role in promoting healthy lifestyles, supporting student success, and maintaining compliance with the Job Corps Health and Wellness Program.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with health professionals, counselors, instructors, and other center staff to provide comprehensive substance abuse prevention and intervention services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group substance abuse counseling.
- Introduce students to appropriate self-help and recovery support programs.
- Develop and coordinate intervention plans with counselors, healthcare providers, instructors, and educators.
- Assist in developing and monitoring student behavioral contracts.
- Evaluate students and coordinate referrals for additional counseling or treatment services when appropriate.
- Conduct drug testing and maintain required chain-of-custody procedures.
- Maintain accurate and timely student documentation and health records.
- Prepare required monthly and quarterly reports.
- Coordinate Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) activities.
- Support Healthy and Active Lifestyles (HEALS) programming.
- Plan and conduct three annual substance abuse prevention events.
- Collaborate with the Recreation Department to promote alcohol- and drug-free leisure activities.
- Perform all duties in accordance with Job Corps policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Meet the education and qualification requirements established by the Job Corps Policy and Requirements Handbook (PRH) for the Drug & Alcohol Abuse Counselor (TEAP) position.
- Must obtain required Department of Labor (DOL) approval before providing services.
- Demonstrated ability to provide substance abuse counseling, prevention education, and student support services.
- Experience maintaining confidential records and preparing required documentation and reports.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Work Environment
- On-site position at the Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) Job Corps Center.
- Part-time schedule of approximately 20 hours per week.
- Work involves direct interaction with students in a clinical and educational environment.
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
