Position: Head Cashier
Location: Gitto Farmer's Market
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Head Cashier to lead our front-end team and ensure fast, accurate, and friendly customer service. The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of supermarket cashier experience, strong leadership skills, and extensive knowledge of produce PLU codes and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of supermarket cashier experience (required)
- Strong knowledge of produce PLU codes and fresh produce identification
- Previous experience supervising or leading cashiers preferred
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Dependable, organized, and detail-oriented
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- Basic computer and POS system knowledge
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support all cashiers during daily operations
- Ensure accurate scanning, pricing, and cash handling procedures
- Train new cashiers on POS systems, PLU codes, and company policies
- Assist with cashier scheduling and break coverage
- Resolve customer questions and complaints professionally
- Perform cash register counts, reconciliations, and end-of-day balancing
- Ensure checkout lanes remain clean, stocked, and organized
- Monitor cashier performance and maintain excellent customer service standards
- Verify correct pricing and assist with price checks when necessary
- Work closely with store management to improve front-end operations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a grocery or supermarket environment
- Familiarity with West Indian and international produce is a plus
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) is a plus
