Program Summary - Who We Serve
In our Adaptive Dance Program, Common Connections, students learn the foundations of dance, engage in the performing arts with their peers, and imagine their own unique ways of expression in an open and inclusive environment. Designed for youth to young adult. Curriculum aligned with BPS, DESE, & NCA Standards.
Position Summary - What You Do
The Physical Therapist (PT) plays an integral role in Boston Arts Club’s Common Connections program by supporting students' safe and meaningful participation in adaptive dance experiences. Working as a Teaching Team with your Lead Teacher (LT) and Teaching Assistant(s) (TA), the Physical Therapist supports students in weekly sessions focused on creative expression, body awareness, and peer engagement. The Physical Therapist helps ensure that movement activities are accessible, developmentally appropriate, and responsive to individual student needs. This role is ideal for a Physical Therapist who is passionate about inclusive arts education and enjoys working with a diverse student population with varying abilities in a school-based setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students in developing motor skills, balance, coordination, body awareness, and functional movement through tactile cues or hands-on adjustments
- Assist with student engagement during class and provide individualized support as needed
- Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to adapt activities and movement exercises to support a wide range of physical, cognitive, sensory, and developmental needs, as necessary
- Provide recommendations for movement modifications, accommodations, and accessibility supports that promote safe participation, as necessary
- Monitor student safety during movement activities and proactively address potential physical barriers to participation
- Collaborate with school faculty, paraprofessionals, and other support staff to best meet student needs
- Assist with classroom logistics, transitions, and activity setup as needed
- Communicate regularly with the Boston Arts Club team about successes, challenges, and needs
- Participate in an annual orientation and training or check-ins throughout the year
Qualifications - What You Bring
Required:
- Experience working with children, adolescents, or young adults with disabilities and/or special needs
- Knowledge of motor development, movement analysis, and adaptive physical activity practices
- Experience supporting neurodiverse learners, including students on the autism spectrum
- Demonstrated ability to support neurodiverse learners, including students on the autism spectrum
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with school faculty and staff
- Commitment to creating a safe, respectful, and encouraging learning environment
- Punctuality, professionalism, and reliability in a school-based setting
Preferred:
- Licensed Physical Therapist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (or eligible for licensure)
- Background in special education, dance therapy, or trauma-informed instruction
- Understanding of IEPs and school-based support services
- Experience working in public schools or similar education environments

Compensation:
Physical Therapist (PT) - $50/hr
Administrative & Travel (AM) - $18/hr
*PT Time is for Class Instruction
*AM Time is available for travel time between sites.
Start Date: As early as September 10th, 2026.
