We are offering medical support services to the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). We are currently hiring for Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) positions at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS) medical center in Palo Alto, CA.
This is a unique opportunity to work directly with VA patients, surgeons, and anesthesia staff as an integral member of the VAPAHCS surgical team. Work will be performed on site in a surgical setting. Employment is full-time and salaried.
Responsibilities:
Direct Patient Care (90% of time)
- Interface with patients, surgeons, and anesthesia staff in the surgical setting
- Implement the pre-operative plan of care, demonstrating knowledge of the responsibilities of the RN pre-operatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively
- Scrub and circulate surgical procedures independently
- Work as a positive team player in partnership with the health care team in implementing standards of care during the operative and immediate post-operative phase in accordance with the purpose, philosophy, and objectives of nursing
- Supervise care given and services rendered in the OR by other professional and non-professional staff
- Follow all established patient safety and infection control standards, making every effort to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care
- Maintain and care for equipment used, applying principles of asepsis, therapeutic, and technical knowledge to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff
- Document nursing interventions, incorporating use of Deliverex, DHCP, and GUI
- Assist in orientation of rotating surgical and anesthesia residents, as well as other nursing staff
- Provide family and patient teaching
Administrative (10% of time)
- Attend staff meetings/rounds as required by the VAPAHCS Chief of Service or Nurse Executive
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings on an as-needed basis during regular working hours
- Complete the appropriate QM/PI documentation pertaining to all procedures, complications, and outcome of examinations, as needed
- Follow procedures for Patient Safety Reporting within the required timeframe
- Complete required clinical and medical record documentation for echocardiography services within the required timeframe
- Utilize VA?s electronic medical record system for patient care documentation, where applicable, including the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS)
Salary Range: $130,000- $150,000 with competitive benefits
