Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and manage front desk operations with professionalism and enthusiasm.
- Schedule appointments efficiently using dental practice management software.
- Verify insurance coverage, including dental insurance plans like Delta Dental or Cigna.
- Review and update patient medical records and documentation in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Assist patients with intake procedures, explaining treatment plans and answering questions about dental terminology and procedures.
- Handle medical billing processes including CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, and collection of payments through Meditech or Athenahealth platforms.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies while managing sensitive patient information.
- Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure accurate documentation review and care plan updates.
- Manage multi-line phone systems with excellent phone etiquette to address patient inquiries promptly.
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, data entry (including 10 key typing), and maintaining organized medical records.
Experience
- Proven clinic experience in a dental or medical office environment with strong knowledge of dental terminology and medical billing practices.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems like Epic, Meditech, eClinicalWorks, or Dentrix is highly preferred.
- Experience with insurance verification processes, medical coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, and Medicare claims submission.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to effectively serve diverse patient populations.
- Demonstrated customer service skills with a focus on patient service excellence in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and dental practice management software such as Open Dental.
- Office management experience that includes scheduling, filing, and handling multi-line phone systems is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of clinical confidentiality policies and health information management standards to ensure compliance at all times.
