Loader / Switcher:
- Position operates a rubber tire loader and switcher tractor in the operation of a municipal solid waste transfer station.
- Operate a rubber tire loader to load bulk solid waste into transfer trailers to be hauled to a landfill.
- Must be able to operate a rubber-tire loader within an enclosed structure in close proximity to truck traffic.
- Use on-board, electronic scales to weigh material being loaded.
- Operate a loader-mounted tamp and/ or excavator to tamp material into trailers.
- Directs flow of incoming trucks onto the tipping floor.
- Perform daily maintenance inspections on equipment and perform basic daily maintenance tasks, i.e. add fuel, add lubricant oils, grease machine components, clean radiator, check filters, etc.
- Maintain written logs of trailers loaded, equipment inspections and random waste inspections.
- Operate a switcher truck maneuvering 48’ and 51’ foot trailers around a yard and in and out of a loading pit.Must be able to maneuver and back trailers proficiently.
- Must be able to connect and disconnect trailers from a road tractor or switcher tractor.
- Most be able roll and unroll trailer tarps from the ground using a 12’ tarp handle.Must be physically able to climb ladders, stairs and perform strenuous overhead work.
- Perform daily maintenance and inspections on switcher trucks.
- The loader operator works as part of a transfer station crew
- Must be able to work and communicate as part of a team.
- Must communicate with crew members, drivers and customers.Must be able to read and understand the facility operations plan.
- Must be able to wear required PPE including hard-hat,safety vest, work gloves and safety glasses.
- Steel-toe work boots are required and must be provided by the employee.
- Must be willing and able to perform daily housekeeping tasks in the operational area including shoveling, raking, sweeping and picking up litter.
- Work is outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Will be exposed to diesel fuel, grease, motor oil, hydraulic oil, antifreeze and solid waste.
