American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Telemetry Observation Unit position at a Level I Trauma facility in Arizona, requiring Cerner experience and Level I Trauma background.

Acute care observation unit (7HLT) with 21–23 beds in a Level I Trauma hospital
-
Telemetry is centrally monitored; RNs are responsible for reading rhythm strips
-
Common patient diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, OBGYN post-ops, cholecystitis, hand surgeries, fundoplications, and s/p trauma observation
-
Patient ratio is 1:4–1:5
-
RNs are required to titrate drips including Diltiazem, Heparin, and Amiodarone
-
Respiratory therapy manages BiPAP and High Flow; CPAP is used at night
-
SWAT RN available for difficult IV access
-
One PCT per shift provides nursing aide support
-
Charge nurse typically carries 1 patient, but may take up to 1–3 patients when short staffed
-
RT and pharmacy available 24/7
-
12-hour day shifts, 7a–7p; schedule released 4 weeks in advance and subject to change
-
Every other weekend (EOW) required, with 3 weekend shifts per 4-week period

Holidays worked on a rotating basis

First to float; floating occurs to Med/Surg Tele floors and may include off-campus locations approximately 21–22 miles away, with possible mid-shift float
-
Staff may be placed on standby; RN must be notified at least 1.5 hours before shift and must report to unit within 1 hour of being called in

EMR: Cerner

Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

Level I Trauma experience required

Strong Med/Surg and Observation nursing background required

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted

COVID vaccination required

Cerner EMR experience

Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)

2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam with a score of 80% or higher (up to 2 attempts) prior to offer confirmation
-
Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible
-
High patient turnover unit — up to half or the entire floor may turn over within a single shift
-
2-day floor-specific orientation provided
-
On the first day of orientation, RNs must pass a pass/fail sterile technique skills assessment covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; failure results in immediate termination from the assignment
-
SIMs Lab is required for all RNs and covers Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; maintaining sterile field is critical to passing

Additional orientation modules cover lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational/informational only)

Candidates who fail both the Relias Dysrhythmia exam and/or the sterile technique test are ineligible for CommonSpirit Arizona facilities for 6 months

Navy scrubs required
