This is an outside sales role responsible for building and growing a portfolio of trade (B2B) funeral home accounts in the Phoenix metropolitan area. The Business Development Representative will identify, prospect, and close new trade accounts, then manage those relationships to ensure volume targets are met and service quality is maintained.
Key Responsibilities
New Business Development
- Identify, qualify, and close new trade cremation and transportation accounts within the assigned metropolitan market (Phoenix)
- Develop and execute a territory plan targeting funeral homes, mortuaries, and other death care providers that outsource cremation services
- Build a pipeline of prospective accounts using cold outreach, industry networking, and referral relationships
Target: 1 new qualified account every 2 months, ramping to a full book of 15- -20 active accounts over the forecast period
Account Management & Retention
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for all trade accounts in the territory
- Monitor account volume, service quality, and satisfaction to ensure retention and growth
- Coordinate with care center operations teams to ensure reliable pickup, cremation, and return timelines
- Proactively address service issues and work cross-functionally to resolve them
CRM & Reporting
- Maintain accurate pipeline and account records in CEL Dynamics CRM
- Track all prospect meetings, contract status, and account volume in CRM
- Provide monthly reports on new account activity, pipeline status, and volume trends to SVP, Crematory Operations
Contract Execution
- Present Monarch Trade Services value proposition and pricing to prospective accounts
- Negotiate and execute trade service agreements using approved contract templates (finalized with Legal)
- Ensure all new accounts meet minimum volume thresholds before onboarding
Qualifications
- 3+ years of B2B outside sales experience with demonstrated account acquisition track record
- Experience managing a geographic territory and building a book of business from scratch
- Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to establish trust quickly in a consultative sales environment
- Proficiency with CRM platforms (experience with CEL Dynamics or similar preferred)
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the assigned metropolitan market daily
- Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Phoenix, AZ metropolitan area
- Experience in the death care, funeral services, or cremation industry preferred
- Familiarity with trade/wholesale service models in any industry
- Prior experience in a role with draw-against-commission or milestone-based bonus compensation
- Existing relationships with funeral homes or mortuaries in Phoenix preferred
