We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Commercial Lending Manager to lead our commercial and business lending program and drive growth within our financial services organization. This role is responsible for the leadership, growth, and administration of the credit union’s commercial lending program, ensuring sound underwriting practices, regulatory compliance, and portfolio growth. The ideal candidate will possess strong industry knowledge, a thorough understanding of NCUA financial regulations, excellent team leadership skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional member service. As a key member of our organization, you will foster strong member relationships throughout the loan lifecycle while developing lending strategies that support business growth and the credit union’s strategic objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of the commercial loan portfolio, including business development, origination, underwriting, approval, closing, servicing, and portfolio management.
- Ensure all lending activity complies with NCUA regulations, including member business lending (MBL) limits, concentration risk thresholds, and CECL/ACL requirements
- Analyze credit risk and make or recommend loan approval decisions within delegated authority
- Develop and maintain relationships with commercial members and prospects; leverage existing client relationships to grow the portfolio
- Monitor loan portfolio performance, identify problem loans early, and manage workout/collections coordination as needed
- Ensure loan documentation is prepared in coordination with compliance and documentation systems
- Partner with credit analysts to review spreads, risk ratings, and covenant compliance
- Present loan recommendations to loan committee/board as required
- Chair Business Loan Committee meetings and present commercial loan recommendations to the Committee and Board of Directors in accordance with credit union policy.
- Stay current on NCUA regulatory changes, call report requirements, and third-party lending guidance
- Complete and review financial spreads on commercial loan applications, assessing cash flow, debt service coverage, and collateral value
- Lead the credit union's efforts to develop business relationships within the communities served by representing the credit union in local business organizations, networking events, chambers of commerce, and other community activities.
- Partner with and coach Branch Managers in developing business relationships within their markets to increase awareness of the credit union's commercial products and services.
- Provide training and subject matter expertise to Branch Managers, lending staff, Board members, and other employees regarding commercial lending products, business development strategies, sales techniques, and related topics.
- Provides the leadership to establish and sustain successful business member relationships that maximize the sales and revenue of loans, products and services from the credit union
- Actively participates in community business organizations, including Rotary, Kiwanis, Chamber, etc. and periodically attends these organization meetings along with Branch Managers in the communities that we serve.
- Maintains in-depth product knowledge on all business services; able to provide quality referrals on business loans, merchant bankcards, and other business products.
- Gains proficient knowledge in other La Capitol products not related to commercial lending or accounts.
- Will be required to work closely with our business lending CUSO to ensure they’re meeting the credit union’s needs.
- Will work closely with administrative staff for commercial lending to establish and maintain proper follow-up and documentation for all commercial lending accounts.
- Will ensure compliance with loan policies and procedures and ensure adherence to regulations and guidelines from external regulatory agencies.
- Will be responsible for gaining knowledge of credit union operating systems in relation to processing and servicing commercial loans.
- Complete special projects assigned by La Cap management.
- Understand compliance issues and attend training as they relate to credit union services, including, but not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act, Reg P, and Patriot Act.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Eperience
- Minimum of five (5) years of commercial lending or commercial credit analysis experience required, preferably within a credit union or community bank.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing commercial financial statements, tax returns, and preparing financial spreads is required.
- Management or supervisory experience required.
- Two (2) or more years of commercial business development or sales experience preferred.
- Demonstrated success establishing new business relationships, growing a commercial loan portfolio, and leading strategic sales initiatives.
- Existing portfolio of commercial client relationships strongly preferred.
- Prior commercial credit analyst experience preferred.
