This position is part of the Structures/Hydraulics Section at the Vermont Agency of Transportation. The Section develops plans, specifications, and estimates for transportation infrastructure across Vermont, including bridges, culverts, and related structures. This role focuses on hydrology and hydraulics, supporting the design and analysis of bridges and culverts statewide.
Engineers in this role assist with hydraulic modeling, hydrologic calculations, and evaluating stream behavior and storm event flows. Work includes preparing technical documentation, conducting field assessments, and coordinating with structural, roadway, and environmental staff. Depending on experience, engineers may perform tasks under guidance, independently, or with limited supervision.
This position uses hydraulic and hydrologic tools such as SRH‑2D, HEC‑RAS, HY‑8, WMS, and StreamStats, along with GIS software for mapping and data evaluation. Strong communication skills, an interest in water resources, and the ability to manage multiple assignments are important.
