We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Controller/Controller to join our finance team.
This pivotal role involves overseeing the organization’s accounting operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing strategic financial insights.
The successful candidate will lead the accounting department in managing financial reporting, internal controls, and audit processes, while fostering a culture of accuracy and integrity. Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, and other relevant standards.
- Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, including balance sheet reconciliation and account analysis.
- Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements and other regulatory frameworks applicable to nonprofit, governmental, or public entities.
- Supervise accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cost accounting analysis.
- Lead the development and maintenance of accounting systems and software to optimize financial data management.
- Conduct financial analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making.
- Manage internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure regulatory compliance in all financial processes.
- Coordinate external audits, prepare regulatory reports, and ensure timely submission of financial filings.
- Oversee cash management activities including treasury management and banking relationships.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff to enhance team performance and professional development.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and governmental accounting standards.
- Proven experience in managing accounting teams within complex organizational structures.
- Strong proficiency in financial software systems and spreadsheets; expertise in Excel data analysis is essential.
- Excellent understanding of financial concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, general ledger reconciliation, and account reconciliation.
- Skilled in financial report writing, regulatory reporting, and technical accounting practices.
- Ability to analyze financial data critically for forecasting and cost analysis purposes.
- Demonstrated competence in managing accounts payable/receivable processes and cash flow management.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating across departments and preparing comprehensive financial reports.
- Experience with international accounting standards and public accounting practices is advantageous.
