Essential Functions

Appropriately and effectively intervenes when unruly, abusive, combative, threatening, or armed persons are encountered.

Apprehend and arrest individuals for criminal activity.

Complete investigations of any criminal activity occurring within assigned jurisdiction, make arrests, and process criminal defendants as per applicable state criminal proceedings.

Respond to routine and emergency calls for assistance. Complete uniform incident reports and other assigned documentation.

Assist teammates with and serve as subject matter expert in criminal process.

Communicate in a calm, factual, objective, and courteous manner with all persons with whom communication or collaboration are necessary. Coordinates and communicates with community police agencies as appropriate.

Provide armed response to any imminent situation that threatens the life or safety of anyone on Advocate Health property.

Prepare criminal cases for court proceedings, attend court, and testify in criminal proceedings.

Ability to run, and exert intense physical effort in moving, controlling, or restraining combative subjects

Possess close and intermediate visual acuity

Spends majority of time standing or walking with a reasonable amount of bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching

May be exposed to unfavorable weather conditions

Exposed to hazardous work conditions and combative subjects
Education, Experience and Certifications
-
License/Registration/Certification: General Law Enforcement Certification
Issued by (Governing Body): applicable state Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards (or ability to transfer laterally)-
Level of Education: Basic Law Enforcement Training

Field of Study (if applicable): Criminal Justice
-
Years of Experience: 2 (preferred)

Describe Type Experience: General law enforcement or public safety experience (preferred)

Ability to work independently and respond calmly in complex, stressful situations

Knowledge of and ability to apply federal, state and local criminal statutes and case law
-
Knowledge of criminal process

Demonstrate proficiency with a firearm to meet Advocate Health and applicable state standards
-
Ability to obtain and maintain applicable state General Law Enforcement Certification

Ability to perform under stressful, emergency conditions
-
Valid Driver's license
-
Ability to pass rigorous background check, polygraph and/or psychological testing
-
Ability to pass Advocate Health mandated Taser, CPI, and self-defense training
