Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic School Bus Driver to ensure the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school and related activities. This role involves operating school buses in compliance with traffic laws and safety regulations, assisting students during boarding and disembarking, and maintaining a positive, secure environment on the bus. The ideal candidate will be committed to safety, possess excellent communication skills, and have experience working with children. They need a CDL drivers license with an S endorsement.
Duties
- Safely operate school buses according to state and local transportation laws, traffic regulations, and school policies.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and proper functioning before each route.
- Assist students with boarding, disembarking, including wheelchair assistance for students with mobility needs.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents or accidents promptly and effectively.
- Maintain discipline and ensure passenger safety during transit by managing student behavior appropriately.
- Communicate clearly with students, parents, school staff, and emergency responders as needed.
- Complete all required documentation such as route logs, incident reports, and safety checklists accurately.
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving, including school bus or transit bus operation.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting students or handling equipment.
- Certification in first aid and CPR to respond effectively in emergencies.
- Strong communication skills to interact with children, parents, staff, and emergency personnel.
- Familiarity with child behavior management techniques and student discipline procedures.
- Multilingual abilities are a plus for effective communication with diverse student populations.
- Experience with wheelchair assistance and paratransit services is preferred.
- Knowledge of emergency stop procedures and defensive driving techniques.
- Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes while maintaining safety standards.
- Understanding of child care principles and senior care experience is advantageous.
