This position reports to the Clinical Director.
The Clinical Therapist/Counselor will work closely with the medical team and other staff to provide direct services and support to clients. The Clinical Therapist/Counselor will assist with facilitating groups, facilitating individual therapy sessions, communicating with the medical team about issues related to each client, and complete necessary documentation required for authorization and continued care. As an important source of role modeling appropriate boundaries, communication, and responsibility, the Clinical Therapist/Counselor will be accountable for reinforcing program structure by demonstrating professional behavior and having regular positive interactions that align with Red Top Wellness Center’s ethical standards.
Essential Job Functions
-Educate clients on the disease of addiction and living a life of recovery
-Assist in creating a safe environment for clients
-Complete all necessary documentation in the EMR
-Complete authorization reviews for insurance purposes when due
-Coordinate aftercare plans with discharge coordinator
-Ensures clients attend scheduled groups and activities
-Maintains client and program records in accordance with the facilities policies and procedures and applicable state regulations
-Maintain a high level of ethical conduct and behavior with clients
-Adhere strictly to confidentiality requirements (HIPAA)
-Maintain communication with the medical and clinical team about dynamics, behavior, events, and other required-to-report issues
-Assists in emergency situations when directed
-Compile weekend email of client progress for primary therapist to review
-Responsible for acquiring new knowledge of treatment modalities/interventions/skills
Job Responsibilities
Individual Therapy/Counseling:
-Complete documentation for: group therapy, collateral contact, treatment plans, family therapy sessions, individual therapy sessions, etc.
-Completes documentation in a timely manner
-Provides updates to family members on client progress
-Completes all necessary authorizations related to insurance coverage
-Responsible for continuing documentation necessary for state requirements
-Assist with creating safety plan in the event of a crisis with client
Group Therapy/Counseling:
- Facilitates groups as designated by the group schedule
- Assists in de-escalation of issues that arise in group
- Responsible for communicating problems with the rest of the treatment team
- Creates new and inviting topics to educate/inform clients
- Completes documentation in a timely manner
Family Therapy/Counseling:
-Responsible for contacting family members to arrange sessions as requested by Primary Therapist
- Determines need for family therapy with client
- Facilitates family therapy sessions as needed
- Provides updates to clinical team about progress with family therapy
- Completes all necessary documentation in a timely manner
Discharge Planning:
- Assists client is determining aftercare plans for continuation of treatment
- Helps prevent AMA discharges by meeting with client
- Communicates with treatment team in the event of AMA
- Coordinates with discharge planner potential aftercare plans
- Signs off on necessary discharge documentation
Miscellaneous:
- Completes all necessary continuing education units (CEUs) per state regulations
- Seeks supervision in high-risk situations with clients as needed
- Communicate with necessary personnel about potential danger of client/others
-Submit to random drug screens as necessary

Education, Experience, and Additional Requirements
Master’s degree or higher is required
License consisting of the following: LAPC, LMSW, LAMFT, LPC, LCSW, or LMFT
One to two years of experience in Mental Health/Substance Abuse treatment is preferred and/or a strong professional reference attesting to a high degree of customer service, punctuality, and professionalism
A valid Driver’s License
18 years of age or older
Must submit to a background test
Must submit and pass a drug screen
Knowledge, Abilities and Attitudes Required
Knowledge of software programs for personal computer use
Knowledge and experience in working with chemically dependent clients
Knowledge of different treatment modalities and interventions
Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and is aware of clients’ past traumas
Ability to organize and evaluate groups and group activities
Ability to effectively resolve conflict and cope with crisis situations
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to carry out assigned tasks to completion
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients and staff by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and resolving conflicts
Ability to plan and organize workload and manage tasks meeting documentation deadlines him/herself
Ability to maintain professional standards and demeanor, including confidentiality of employee and client data and other sensitive information
Recognition of the limits of one’s own professional expertise and the willingness to seek supervision and/or support as needed.
Must be culturally/linguistically sensitive to populations served
