Job Summary
Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant, where you will play a vital role in supporting patient care and laboratory operations. In this energetic position, you will perform blood collection, specimen processing, and assist with various laboratory procedures to ensure accurate and timely diagnostic results. Duties
- Strong knowledge of phlebotomy, blood sampling, venipuncture, and specimen collection methods
- Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture and other phlebotomy techniques with precision and care
- Prepare, label, and process specimens for laboratory testing in accordance with established protocols and templates provided.
- Separate and bag each patient's specimens along with proper documentation and get them ready to be sent out to contracted lab companies, ex: Sonora Quest, Labcorp, L&L Diagnostics, Shield, etc.
- Order laboratory supplies and requisition forms
- Maintain a sterile environment by adhering to aseptic techniques and infection control standards; keep lab room and patient bathroom clean on a daily basis.
- Record accurate medical diagnosis codes (ICD) and procedure codes on lab requisition forms as well as relevant patient information
- Download lab results from lab portals and upload to the EMR
- Fix any billing codes/errors and send or call the laboratory companies as needed.
- Communicate with provider to obtain the proper tests for patients when needed.
- Excellent patient service skills with the ability to comfort and communicate effectively with diverse patients
- Additional job duties: answer phones and take proper messages, assist front office with preparing for next day tasks, ex: pulling charts, patient reminder calls, verify insurances.
