Al Kennedy High School serves approximately 80 students in an alternative education setting. School staff coordinate closely to provide services to students. This position entails development and instruction of high school Agricultural Science, Plant Science and/or Horticulture curriculum to 9-12 grade students is required.
Al Kennedy High School seeks a CTE Agriculture, Foods, Natural Resource Systems Science (AFNR) Teacher skilled at creating meaningful relationships with students and engaging lessons to inspire students to learn about Agriculture & Plant Science and the world around them. AKHS has an expansive garden, native plant nursery, orchard and greenhouse. We are looking for a candidate that will incorporate the garden into their lessons for students to be actively engaged while learning. Applicants with a background in Agriculture, Forestry or Natural Resources and the ability to obtain their CTE certification in AFRN are highly desired.
This position teaches half time and oversees Al Kennedy High Schools Kennedy Conservation Corps (a.k.a. Crew) and Quamash Prairie programs the other half of the time. The crew leader, leads students in Wetland Mitigation work at Quamash Prairie and manages and fulfills the Conservation Corps grants.
The above listed duties include:

Removing invasive species

Planting native species

Falling trees

Brush Fires

Hosting field trips for students to learn about the wetland

Grant writing and grant reporting for Army Corps of Engineers, Oregon Youth Conservation Corps, Bureau of Land Management and Forestry Department.
Fulfilling the grant contracts by doing:

Train maintenance
-
Camp maintenance
-
Fire prevention/mitigation work

Building defensible spaces
-
Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate CTE and/or Science endorsement.

Successful experience teaching Science at the secondary level.

Demonstrated knowledge of effective instructional practices and student behavior management strategies.

Ability to plan, implement, and assess instruction aligned with district curriculum and instructional goals.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, colleagues, and administrator.

Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver hands-on, applied science instruction in both classroom and field-based settings.

Knowledge of natural resources, environmental science, forestry, agriculture, plant science, or closely related fields.

Ability to supervise students safely during outdoor learning experiences, field studies, and work-based learning opportunities.

Commitment to supporting at-risk students and fostering student engagement through experiential learning.

Demonstrated skills in collaborative planning, problem-solving, and shared decision-making.

Flexibility and adaptability in meeting the diverse needs of students and the school community.

Experience teaching environmental science, natural resources, forestry, agriculture, horticulture, plant science, or related coursework.

Professional, educational, volunteer, or industry experience in natural resources, forestry, agriculture, horticulture, conservation, environmental stewardship, or related fields.

Experience developing partnerships with community organizations, industry partners, or work-based learning programs.

Experience working in alternative education settings.

Demonstrated success implementing project-based and place-based learning strategies.

Experience differentiating instruction for students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
Salary
Salary will be determined by the teaching experience and degree level in accordance with the licensed salary schedule and Transition Specialist salary schedule
