GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Group Exercise Instructor will instruct quality classes and provide excellent customer service to members and program participants in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plan and instruct classes in a specialty area; maintain current certification in specialty area.

Provide positive, specific cueing during class to ensure optimal workout.

Be available to participants before and after class to help with equipment set up, answer questions, etc

Inform class participants of YMCA programs and other announcements as requested by Director of Healthy Living

Observe participants form and other behaviors to ensure safety, discuss individual progress with participants.

Motivate and encourage class and program participation.

Set up and take down own class equipment and report equipment problems to supervisor.

Ensure safe and effective classes; responding to and reporting any accidents or incidents.

Maintain working knowledge of fitness industry and YMCA trends to provide effective information and training to members.

Keep accurate class attendance records.

Must follow and promote YMCA Covid-19 guidelines

Be able to respond and follow YMCA policies and procedures in emergency situations.

Follow all program policy and procedures including Child Abuse Prevention Policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Never convicted of any child abuse including sexual abuse.

Formal training and current certification in the Group Exercise class being taught (YMCA will provide).

CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 60 days of hire (YMCA provided).

Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to individually lead a class and motivate participants.

Preferred at least one year experience teaching group fitness classes or personal training.

Must have availability to teach one or more of the following class times: Weekdays - 5:15am, 8:30am, 4:30pm or 5:30pm. Occasional Saturdays – 8:30am

Ability to set up, move and store class equipment.

Ability to interact and build relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds.
