The Basics of a Human Resources Generalist:

What you'll do as a Human Resources Generalist:
The Human Resources Generalist provides a high-quality employee experience across the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment through separation. This role exercises independent judgment in administering HR programs, facilitating onboarding and orientation, supporting payroll and FMLA administration, and advising employees on day-to-day people matters.
The HR Generalist serves as a key operational partner within the HR function and may require occasional travel to branch locations to support onboarding, employee engagement initiatives, and organizational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Orientation & Pre-Onboarding

Facilitate new hire orientation both in-person and virtually, ensuring a consistent, engaging, and compliant onboarding experience across all locations.

Coordinate pre-onboarding processes including HRIS setup, digital personnel files, background checks, I-9s, E-Verify, tax documentation, and cross-functional first-day logistics.

Travel to branch locations as needed to deliver orientation and support onboarding activities.
Recruiting

Partner with hiring managers to understand role requirements and required competencies for Tier 1 positions.
-
Create and manage job postings within the applicant tracking system, ensuring accurate position set up, approvals, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards.

Review and screen applications to evaluate candidate qualifications against established job criteria and organizational standards.
-
Prepare, extend, and process employment offers in alignment with compensation guidelines and approval protocols.
-
Provide process guidance to managers throughout the recruiting lifecycle to ensure timely, consistent, and compliant hiring decisions.
HR Operations

Administer and execute human resource programs including FMLA support, payroll support, compensation changes, benefits administration, PTO tracking, and performance management processes.

Serve as backup payroll processor, ensuring accurate and timely payroll administration in partnership with the Senior Total Rewards Analyst.

Serve as backup admin for the HR mailbox, triaging employee questions and routing items appropriately when the assigned team member is unavailable.

Review and process employee data changes including promotions, transfers, terminations, compensation updates, and supervisor changes.

Process and coordinate employee offboarding activities.
-
Assist with employment verifications and compliance documentation.

Support department initiatives related to engagement, recognition, HR technology, and process improvement.

Provide mail room support when needed.
General

This is an exempt role which will occasionally require a time commitment beyond a normal 40-hour work week based on business needs.

Comply with the credit union Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Policy and Anti Money Laundering and Member Due Diligence Procedures. BSA training is to be completed within 90 days of employment.

Complete compliance and career development training as assigned.
