FACTS Ed Title I Academic Counselor (LAUSD)
The FACTS Ed Title I Academic Counselor provides supplemental academic counseling and support to eligible students attending participating private schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The Academic Counselor works closely with students, families, teachers, and school administrators to improve academic achievement through targeted interventions, progress monitoring, and family engagement.
FACTS, a division of Nelnet, partners with more than 11,500 K-12 schools nationwide to provide innovative educational technology and instructional services that help students succeed.
All FACTS Ed associates are required to complete a minimum of five (5) hours of paid pre-service training before providing services. Training includes live virtual sessions and self-paced online learning modules.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
- Valid California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential with School Counseling authorization.
- Current California School Counselor Certification.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience providing academic counseling or student support services to K-12 students.
- Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and school staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Title I or other federally funded education programs.
- Experience serving academically at-risk and underserved students.
- Knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI).
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide individual and small-group academic counseling to eligible Title I students.
- Help students improve their academic skills, organization, study habits, and goal setting.
- Monitor student progress and adjust support as needed.
- Work closely with teachers, school staff, and families to support student success.
- Conduct parent meetings and encourage family involvement.
- Maintain accurate student records and required documentation.
- Follow all Title I, LAUSD, and FACTS Ed program requirements.
- Deliver services that are supplemental, secular, neutral, and non-ideological in accordance with federal Title I guidelines.
