Project Manager - Auto Parts Stores (Retail Construction)
Position Overview
We are seeking a results-oriented Project Manager to lead retail construction projects for national auto parts stores. The Project Manager will oversee tenant improvement and ground-up construction from pre-construction through closeout, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, on budget, and to quality and safety standards. This role requires strong retail construction experience, excellent stakeholder communication, and familiarity with auto parts store specifications (AutoZone, O'Reilly Auto Parts preferred).
Key Responsibilities

Manage full project lifecycle for retail build-outs and ground-up auto parts stores, including pre-construction, scheduling, procurement, construction, and closeout.

Develop, monitor and manage project budgets and schedules; provide regular status updates, forecasts and variance analysis to stakeholders.

Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors and internal teams to ensure work meets contract specifications and quality standards.

Lead permitting, inspections, RFIs, submittals, change orders and site documentation; maintain accurate project records and closeout files.

Support estimating and takeoff activities as needed; review bids, evaluate contractor proposals and assist in scope development for tenant improvements and ground-up work.

Ensure compliance with company safety programs, applicable codes and regulations; implement quality control procedures and conduct regular site walkthroughs.

Serve as primary client contact for store operations and corporate construction representatives; build strong working relationships with national chains and local authorities.

Manage punchlists, warranty actions and final turnover; ensure timely resolution of deficiencies and successful transition to operations.
Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or equivalent experience preferred.

5+ years of project management experience in retail construction, with specific experience on tenant improvement and ground-up commercial projects.

Demonstrated experience with national retail roll-outs or buildouts; prior work with AutoZone, O'Reilly Auto Parts or other national auto parts chains strongly preferred.

Estimating experience, including preparing and reviewing estimates, scopes of work and change orders.

Proficiency with construction management software (Procore, PlanGrid, MS Project or similar) and Microsoft Office suite.

Strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills; ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in fast-paced environments.

Understanding of permitting processes, building codes, ADA requirements and OSHA safety standards; OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.

Valid drivers license and willingness to travel frequently to project sites; ability to perform site visits and occasional hands-on supervision.

Professional certifications (PMP, CCM, LEED) are a plus.
