Class Length: 1 to 1.5 hours per class (depending on site requirements)
Compensation: $60–$75 per class (depending on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and engaging Cooking teacher to lead after-school cooking classes for elementary students in Oakland.
In this role, you will guide students through hands-on culinary experiences that introduce basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, nutrition, and food preparation skills in a fun and supportive environment. Classes focus on building confidence, creativity, and practical life skills through age-appropriate recipes and activities.

Responsibilities
- Lead hands-on cooking and food preparation activities for elementary-aged students
- Teach basic kitchen safety, food handling, and sanitation practices
- Guide students through age-appropriate recipes and culinary projects
- Create a positive, engaging, and structured classroom environment
- Encourage teamwork, creativity, and confidence in the kitchen
- Prepare and organize ingredients, materials, and supplies for each class
- Ensure a clean and safe workspace before, during, and after instruction
- Communicate regularly with program staff and site coordinators
- Submit brief after-class updates following each session
Requirements
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred
- Previous culinary, food service, cooking instruction, or related experience required
- Knowledge of food safety and proper kitchen procedures
- Current ServSafe Food Handler Certification or equivalent food safety certification required
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Reliable, organized, and professional
- Must maintain clear, timely, and professional communication with the team
- Required to submit brief after-class reports for each session
- Ability to commit to a consistent Fall 2026 schedule
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching cooking classes, camps, or enrichment programs
- Culinary school training, restaurant experience, or food service background
- Experience working with children in educational or recreational settings
Compensation & Schedule
- $60–$75 per class (depending on experience)
- 1 to 1.5-hour classes depending on site requirements
- August through December 2026
- Consistent weekly after-school schedule
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
