JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for handling of investigational drugs, maintaining the drug inventory and the maintenance of records. Assist with IMP (investigational medical product) preparation and dispensation according to protocol-specific pharmacy manuals and site SOPs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Practices as a pharmacy technician in accordance with all federal, state, DFCI and Joint Commission policies, regulations, and standards.
- Fills medication orders according to policy, including proficiency with advanced preparation including preparation of compounds for IV infusion.
- Performs sterile compounding of drugs including complex compounding processes such as serial dilution, mixing multiple ingredients, etc.
- Procures drug orders and ensures timely completion of medication orders and/or supplies.
- Utilizes clinical research systems to complete and document duties. Troubleshoots as necessary.
- Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies;
- Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date;
- Monitors expiration date and supply of drug for clinical trials;
- Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs;
- Maintains logs, records and other required documentation accurately, i.e. study drug shipment logs, packing slips, temperature logs, screening and enrollment logs, drug accountability logs, blinding correspondence, expiring data, and return material;
- Performs and documents quality control steps as required.
- Performs cleaning of sterile and non-sterile areas of the pharmacy as assigned.
- Trains other employees as assigned.
- Communicates and escalates issues or problems.
- Participates in department meetings and functions to promote a successful and efficient pharmacy workgroup.
- Files all paperwork pertaining to inventory control activities.
- Ensures all study medications are maintained in an organized fashion to enable respective staff to clearly identify location of study supply.
- Review literature and other materials as assigned;
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES – This position requires the following minimal requirements:
- Knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures;
- Knowledge of medications and medical supplies;

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATES
- Bachelor’s of Science Degree required
- At least two (2) years of experience in a pharmacy, medical or research setting
- Certified Pharmacy Technician License required from FL Board PHYSICAL
WORKING CONDITIONS – Standard operating hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m., and Fridays, 8:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. May be required to complete job-related tasks outside of that time frame, more than a standard 40-hour work week. Requires prolonged walking, standing, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Requires occasional lifting of boxes up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in a medical office environment and includes exposure to blood-borne pathogens and bio-hazardous materials.
