Responsibilities
- Assist orthodontists and general dentists during various procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings, utilizing four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments, setting up necessary equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners, and ensuring all materials are ready for patient appointments.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including panoramic and intraoral images, adhering to infection prevention protocols and radiation safety standards.
- Manage patient records efficiently using electronic medical record (EMR) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, orthodontic care instructions, and post-treatment procedures to promote optimal oral health outcomes.
- Handle administrative duties such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist, verifying insurance information, and managing patient management software for seamless clinic operations.
- Maintain strict infection control standards by following dental sterilization procedures, aseptic techniques, and clinical confidentiality policies at all times.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with specific expertise in orthodontics; familiarity with pediatric dentistry is a plus.
- Proficiency in dental software platforms such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for medical documentation and records management.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, dental equipment operation, and clinical procedures including X-ray technology and oral surgery support.
- Strong understanding of infection prevention management, sterilization procedures, and healthcare infection control practices.
- Ability to perform vital signs assessment and medical imaging accurately while maintaining patient comfort.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics, ensuring they feel safe and informed throughout their visit.
- Commitment to clinical confidentiality policies and HIPAA compliance to protect patient information at all times.
- Certification in Dental Assisting (such as CDA or RDA), with additional training or experience in orthodontics preferred.
