Job Opening: General Manager — Southern Raceway
Location: Milton, Florida (On-Site)
Compensation: $60,000-$75,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications, plus potential for performance incentives
Status: Full-time
About the Role
Hunt the Front is seeking a General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of Southern Raceway in Milton, Florida.
Southern Raceway is entering an exciting period of growth under Hunt the Front ownership. Along with operating a busy schedule of grassroots, regional, and national racing events, we are making significant investments in the racetrack, its facilities and the overall experience we provide to racers and fans. We are looking for a strong operator and leader who can take ownership of the details required to keep Southern Raceway operating at a high level every day, not just when the gates open for an event.
The General Manager will oversee Raceday operations, facility management, staffing, vendors, operational projects and many of the day-to-day responsibilities involved in running a successful racetrack.
This person will work closely with Hunt the Front leadership but will be expected to independently solve problems, make decisions, establish systems and keep the operation moving without requiring constant direction.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is organized, dependable, comfortable managing people and capable of keeping multiple priorities and projects moving at once. Motorsports experience is preferred, but strong operational and management ability is more important than having spent your career in racing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Raceday Operations
- Take primary responsibility for the operational execution of Southern Raceway events.
- Develop Raceday staffing plans and ensure necessary positions are adequately staffed.
- Coordinate employees, contractors, vendors and department leads before and during events.
- Ensure parking, ticketing, gates, concessions, security, restrooms, fan areas and other operational areas are prepared before gates open.
- Communicate responsibilities and expectations to Raceday staff.
- Ensure necessary supplies, radios, credentials, wristbands, signage and equipment are prepared for each event.
- Serve as a primary operational problem-solver during events.
- Work closely with race officials, competition personnel, HTFTV production and other Hunt the Front departments.
- Oversee post-event cleanup, facility reset and operational follow-up.
- Review each event and identify opportunities to improve future operations.
Facility Operations
- Maintain Southern Raceway as a clean, safe, organized and professional facility.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintain an ongoing list of maintenance and improvement needs.
- Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Oversee the condition of restrooms, concessions areas, grandstands, fencing, gates, lighting, parking areas, grounds, signage and other facilities.
- Coordinate groundskeeping, cleaning, waste removal and other recurring services.
- Monitor track-owned equipment and coordinate necessary maintenance and repairs.
- Identify and address problems before they become event-day emergencies.
Facility Improvements & Projects
- Southern Raceway continues to undergo significant improvements, and the General Manager will play an important role in helping move those projects from ideas to completion.
- Coordinating contractors and vendors.
- Obtaining and organizing quotes.
- Scheduling projects around the racing calendar.
- Monitoring progress and following up on outstanding work.
- Coordinating deliveries and facility access.
- Keeping Hunt the Front leadership informed of project status, expenses and potential issues.
- Helping identify and prioritize future facility improvements.
Staff Leadership
- Recruit and coordinate part-time and Raceday employees as needed.
- Develop and maintain employee schedules.
- Clearly communicate responsibilities and expectations.
- Train employees and department leads.
- Hold staff accountable for performance and professionalism.
- Develop dependable leaders for key operational areas.
- Establish backup personnel for critical positions.
- Handle routine personnel issues and escalate significant matters when appropriate.
Our goal is to build a strong operational team with clearly defined responsibilities rather than relying on one person to personally handle every task.
Vendors, Purchasing & Inventory
- Manage routine relationships with operational vendors and service providers.
- Coordinate deliveries and recurring services.
- Maintain adequate inventory of operational supplies.
- Make routine purchases within established budgets and purchasing authority.
- Obtain approval for larger expenditures when necessary.
- Look for ways to improve efficiency and control costs without sacrificing racer or fan experience.
Operational & Financial Accountability
Working with Hunt the Front leadership and accounting personnel, the General Manager will:
- Monitor operational expenses.
- Manage labor and staffing costs.
- Help establish and operate within event and facility budgets.
- Review operational performance.
- Identify unusual expenses or budget variances.
- Recommend changes that improve efficiency and profitability.
The General Manager will not be solely responsible for accounting or overall financial strategy but will be expected to understand and take responsibility for the financial impact of operational decisions.
Racer & Fan Experience
The General Manager should continually evaluate Southern Raceway through the eyes of the racers and fans who visit the facility.
- Maintaining high standards for cleanliness, organization and professionalism.
- Identifying recurring racer and fan concerns.
- Addressing operational problems and complaints.
- Improving parking, entry, concessions, restrooms and other customer-facing areas.
- Working with other Hunt the Front departments to improve the overall experience.
- Looking for practical ways to make Southern Raceway better each time we open the gates.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for a strong operator and leader who takes ownership and follows through.
The ideal candidate:
- Is highly organized, dependable and self-motivated.
- Takes initiative rather than waiting to be told what needs to be done.
- Has experience managing employees, teams or complex operations.
- Can manage multiple priorities and projects at the same time.
- Communicates clearly and professionally.
- Is comfortable making decisions and solving problems independently.
- Remains calm and effective in fast-paced or high-pressure situations.
- Is comfortable working in a hands-on environment.
- Has practical knowledge of facilities, equipment, maintenance or similar operational areas.
- Understands budgets and makes responsible purchasing decisions.
- Is comfortable holding employees accountable while building a positive team environment.
- Consistently follows through on commitments and outstanding tasks.
- Looks for ways to improve systems rather than repeatedly solving the same problems.
- Is available to work nights, weekends and irregular hours surrounding racing events.
Previous management experience in motorsports, sports and entertainment venues, live events, hospitality, facility management, construction, operations or another complex customer-facing business is preferred.
Motorsports experience is preferred but not required.
SCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a full-time, primarily on-site position based at Southern Raceway in Milton, Florida.
The General Manager will be expected to work Southern Raceway events, which regularly include nights and weekends. Race weeks may require longer or irregular hours depending on the event schedule, weather and operational needs.
We understand the unique schedule that comes with operating a racetrack and intend to provide reasonable flexibility during non-event periods.
This is not strictly a desk position. The General Manager should expect to spend significant time throughout the property, interact directly with employees, customers and vendors, inspect facilities and equipment, and occasionally assist with hands-on operational needs.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
A successful General Manager will become someone Hunt the Front leadership can trust to take ownership of Southern Raceway's daily operation.
Success in this position means:
- Events operate smoothly without requiring constant involvement from Hunt the Front executives.
- Employees understand their responsibilities and reporting structure.
- Raceday staffing is planned in advance.
- Facility issues are identified and addressed proactively.
- Improvement projects continue moving without constant executive follow-up.
- Vendors and routine purchasing are managed effectively.
- Operational expenses are understood and controlled.
- Racers and fans experience a clean, organized and professional facility.
- Recurring problems result in improved systems rather than recurring emergencies.
- Leadership stays informed about important issues without being pulled into routine operational decisions.
