POSITION SUMMARY
The Division Manager - Trucking is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, safety, customer service, and profitability of an assigned trucking division. The position oversees daily transportation operations involving dump trucks, straight trucks, and related equipment (trailers) utilized in the hauling of aggregates, dirt, asphalt, construction materials, and other products.
The Division Manager is accountable for managing drivers, dispatch operations, customer relationships, equipment utilization, and operational performance within the assigned location. This position works closely with customers, project managers, maintenance personnel, vendors, and company leadership to ensure transportation services are performed safely, efficiently, and in a manner that meets customer expectations.
The Division Manager provides direct leadership to dispatch personnel, drivers, and operational support staff while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The position serves as the primary operational leader for the assigned division and is responsible for achieving operational and financial objectives established by the Director of Transportation and Logistics.
Personnel Management
- Directly supervise and support the Dispatcher, Assigned Drivers, and any assigned positions in the future.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retention of drivers and support personnel.
- Conduct employee coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective action when necessary.
- Develop employee training plans and support career development opportunities.
- Promote accountability, professionalism, and teamwork throughout the division.
Operations Management
- Oversee daily dispatching and scheduling activities of company drivers and hired trucks.
- Ensure appropriate allocation of trucks, drivers, and equipment (trailers) based on customer demand and project requirements.
- Monitor equipment utilization and productivity.
- Coordinate resources to support customer schedules and minimize downtime.
- Resolve service interruptions, scheduling conflicts, and operational challenges.
- Review daily operational reports and key performance indicators.
Customer Relations
- Serve as the primary operational contact for customers within the assigned division and location.
- Maintain strong relationships through consistent communication and service execution.
- Address customer concerns, service issues, and special project requirements.
- Work collaboratively with customers and company leadership to identify growth opportunities.
Financial Performance
- Manage division revenue, expenses, and profitability.
- Ensure accuracy in billings
- Reviews and submits payroll to accounting
- Monitor labor, fuel, maintenance, and operating costs.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce operational expenses.
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and operational forecasts.
Fleet Management
- Collaborate with maintenance personnel to maximize fleet availability and reliability.
- Monitor equipment condition and utilization.
- Support preventative maintenance scheduling and execution.
- Assist with equipment acquisition planning and replacement recommendations.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety requirements.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and driver coaching sessions.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses with the company safety lead.
- Promote a culture focused on safe operations and regulatory compliance.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in trucking, transportation, construction hauling, aggregate hauling, logistics, or related operations.
- Minimum of three (3) years of management or supervisory experience.
- Experience managing drivers, dispatch operations, and fleet assets preferred.
- Experience in aggregate, dirt, asphalt, construction materials, or bulk-material transportation preferred.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Logistics, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Work Environment
The incumbent will split time between office and field environments. Regular interaction with drivers, customers, maintenance personnel, and management staff is required.
Field visits may include construction sites, quarries, asphalt plants, aggregate facilities, customer locations, maintenance facilities, staging yards, and other operational work sites.
The position may require exposure to varying weather conditions, moving equipment, commercial vehicles, dust, dirt, noise, and construction-related hazards.
Extended work hours, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and on-call availability may occasionally be required to support operational needs.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands of the position may vary based on operational requirements but may include: Standing, Walking, Sitting, Climbing, Balancing, Reaching, Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching, Crawling, Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Talking, Hearing, Viewing and interpreting reports and electronic data
The incumbent may be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment while visiting operational work sites.
Certifications / Licenses
- Valid Driver's License required.
- CDL preferred but not required.
- OSHA, First Aid/CPR, or other transportation and safety certifications are beneficial.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug screening if required by company policy.
