A 130+ bed community hospital in Fredericksburg is seeking a full-time RN Manager of Surgical Services to lead its perioperative department. This facility provides a wide range of care including advanced operating room services, emergency care, oncology, cardiovascular services, obstetrics, intensive care, and behavioral health support.
This is a leadership role focused on maintaining efficient surgical operations, supporting staff development, and ensuring high-quality patient care across a multi-OR environment.
Position Overview
The RN Manager of Surgical Services oversees daily operations for a surgical team supporting four operating rooms and approximately 15 staff members. This role is responsible for coordinating staffing, managing schedules, monitoring productivity, and ensuring efficient use of resources to support a smooth and safe surgical workflow.
A key focus is maintaining operational consistency, improving processes, and supporting high-quality perioperative care while ensuring compliance with regulatory and hospital standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the surgical services department
- Manage staffing, scheduling, and workload distribution across operating rooms
- Support efficient surgical case flow through effective coordination of staff, equipment, and supplies
- Monitor productivity and support appropriate use of staffing resources, including premium labor management
- Develop and maintain monthly staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage
- Analyze departmental data and support reporting for perioperative performance metrics
- Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and patient care outcomes
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, safety protocols, and organizational policies
- Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, and hospital leadership to support surgical services operations
- Participate in performance improvement and risk management activities
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of recent Operating Room or Surgical Services experience in an acute care setting required
- Experience as a charge nurse or in a supervisory role preferred
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master’s degree preferred
- Current Virginia Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
