About the position
The Defence Conditions of Service Officer (CoSO) is responsible for delivering conditions of service administration and support in accordance with Defence policy, legislation and established procedures. The role supports ADO personnel and their recognised dependants by coordinating service delivery activities, processing entitlements and reimbursements, responding to enquiries, and maintaining accurate records and information.
The position requires the development of a sound understanding of Defence Conditions of Service arrangements and the ability to apply relevant policies and procedures to a broad range of administrative matters. The role operates within a large and diverse team environment at the Australian Embassy, Washington DC, and may participate in agreed after-hours support arrangements.

To work at the Embassy, you must be:

A US citizen or US lawful permanent resident (green card holder) (18 years or older), or
-
In possession of a valid US Employment Authorisation Document (EAD), or
-
In possession of an A2 visa or eligible to apply for one (20 years or older)*, or
-
In possession of a derivative A visa and a registered member of the family (18 years or older) of a diplomat at the Australian diplomatic mission to which the diplomat is registered.
- Employment based upon an A2 visa is limited to 5 years and cannot be extended. All periods of employment on an A2 visa at any Embassy, Consulate or foreign government office is included in the 5-year limit. All members of the A2 principal visa holder's household will be issued A visas or must change to an A visa as this visa class takes precedence. Married spouses of locally engaged employees who are issued dependent A2 visas cannot work in the United States.
Those employees with a pathway to US permanent residency must take it up as soon as they become eligible.

USD $77,820 - $91,032 New starters commence at base of salary range.

Performance Management
Locally engaged staff engaged in an ongoing or fixed term capacity who are employed on 31 March, have worked in the role for at least 100 working days and meet performance standards are eligible to receive a salary advancement OR a bonus if at the top of their level.
Additional Information
This position is a designated security assessed position. Applicants must be a citizen of Australia to apply. Employment in the advertised position is dependent on the employee having or acquiring a valid DFAT recognised security clearance. Security clearances can take several months to process, and employment cannot be commenced until an appropriate clearance is confirmed. Inability to obtain a clearance prevents the applicant from being employed and loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment.
