Under general supervision, this position performs full-performance level work in the enforcement of environmental and public health sanitation laws. Duties include conducting inspections, investigations, evaluations, and educational programs related to food and water sanitation, sewage, school and institutional sanitation, disease and rodent control, and disaster sanitation. The position may recommend administrative and/or legal action as needed and involves considerable public contact and travel.
Responsibilities:
Conduct inspections, investigations, and evaluations in assigned program areas.
Provide public education on sanitation and health regulations.
Recommend administrative and/or legal action to supervisors as needed.
Cross-train with supervisors and other professionals as required.
Participate in ongoing sanitation training programs.
Travel extensively within assigned areas.
Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
AND
Experience: One (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a sanitarian.
Special Requirements: Must be permitted as a sanitarian-in-training or certified as a sanitarian with the West Virginia State Board of Sanitarians or be eligible to be permitted or certified with the Board per the Reciprocity section of the Practice of Public Health Sanitation, W. Va. Code R. §20-4-4 et seq. Must possess a valid driver's license. Availability of an automobile for continuous use may be a requisite for employment.
