The Law Enforcement Records Bureau gathers, analyzes, and disseminates criminal justice data used by New Mexico law enforcement, criminal justice, corrections, courts, and civil agencies to ensure public safety. The bureau maintains complete and accurate records and responds to the needs of the public, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies providing support and customer engagement through our many applications, programs, and services to achieve the mission objectives.
Why does the job exist?
The Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) Supervisor will manage, administer/facilitate training regarding all lPRA Coordinator Respondents and Production Staff. Key rolls entail; identifying appropriate IPRA response letters, oversee the production of accurate documents, review redaction or records per exemption citation, in accordance with IPRA timelines. Aid in the fulfillment and closure of all lPRA requests received by the Department of Public Safety. Incumbent will interact with various division staff and management within the organization to produce requested data for agency's response, ensuring quality customer service and compliance with the Act while adhering to agency policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws.
How does it get done?
- Supervise the IPRA and Accident Records staff, including assigning work, monitoring performance, providing guidance and training, and ensuring timely and accurate processing of requests.
- Prepare, review, and maintain reports, records, and related documentation.
- Coordinate and Manage Data Requests: Collaborates with DPS staff to identify, organize, and produce data for public records requests in compliance with IPRA policies and laws, ensuring timely processing.
- Process Sensitive and Complex Requests: Handles materials responsive to subpoenas, media inquiries, and complex IPRA requests, such as officer-involved shootings, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Provide Oversight and Assistance: Serves as the first contact for operational IPRA coordinators, reviewing their requests for accuracy and compliance, while providing guidance and resolving issues.

Minimum Qualification
Associate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting and two (2) years of directly related job experience operating within parameters and guidelines in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and fingerprinting in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations; and is conditional pending results. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony free, per Section 5.12.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy.
In addition, the selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a current Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico; or pass and receive the Defensive Driving Certificate within six (6) months of date of hire.
Working Conditions
Working Conditions: This position is based in an office environment, involving extensive use of computers, video display terminals, and telephones, with extended periods of sitting. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs., along with frequent walking, standing, sitting, and bending.
Occasional statewide travel may be required. A national fingerprint-based background check is required prior to assignment, and ongoing employment is contingent upon maintaining a felony-free record in accordance with Section 5.9.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy.
