Position Overview:
The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney reports to the Prosecuting Attorney (PA). The APA is responsible for implementing office procedures to ensure smooth, effective and efficient operation of the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
Education and Experience:
· Licensed Missouri Attorney (or application pending), Recent law graduates are encouraged to apply
· Experience with Missouri Automated Child Support System (MACSS) (Dos operating system) preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Prosecution of felony, misdemeanor and traffic offenses
· Prosecution of civil, criminal and administration of child support
· Advise pre-trial and post-trial conviction practices and motions
· Research and writing
· Other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge:
· Maintaining office services; including telephone, fax, constituent communication, data entry and computer skills and file management.
· Adapt to constant interruptions from the telephone, personal contact with constituents and office staff and requires a pleasant but firm cooperative demeanor
· Maintaining confidentiality by avoiding gossip or discussing open or closed civil or criminal cases or open and closed investigations
· Statues, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines of programs administered by the District Attorney’s Office and the Missouri Child Support Program.
- Applications of legal principles of the practice of Missouri criminal law and procedure to cases.
- Methods, procedures, and practices of legal research.
- Missouri juvenile, criminal and civil laws, Court rules and procedures.
- Established precedents and sources of legal reference.
- County and department policies and procedures.
Skill In:
Organizing materials and documents and accurately maintaining records.
Developing and maintaining professional relationships.
Communicating orally and in writing.
Exercising judgement and discretion in applying rules and policies to situations that may not be routine.
The ability to simultaneously run a docket, run a case management system
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
· Ability to sit or stand for long periods, utilizing office equipment and computers.
· Ability to lift and move office supplies, materials and files on a daily basis and therefore must be capable of lifting at least 40 pounds unassisted.
