Duties
- Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility to enhance comfort and independence.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, and temperature using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks.
- Support patient care plans by providing specialized services such as catheter care, wound dressing changes, and basic life support procedures.
- Help with patient transfers using equipment like Hoyer lifts and ensure safe mobility for individuals with developmental disabilities or those requiring assistive devices.
- Document all patient interactions accurately in medical records while maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in various settings including hospitals (ICU, trauma centers), nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and outpatient clinics.
- Participate in infection control practices using aseptic techniques during procedures such as phlebotomy or medication administration.
Skills
- Proven experience working with diverse populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, individuals with disabilities, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, and behavioral health needs.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for medical documentation and patient records management.
- Knowledge of physiology and anatomy to support accurate vital signs measurement and patient assessments.
- Ability to perform catheter care, wound management, and basic life support confidently in high-pressure environments like Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers.
- Experience in acute care settings such as ICU or emergency medicine units; familiarity with infection control protocols is essential.
- Skilled in using assistive devices including Hoyer lifts and working safely within aseptic techniques during invasive procedures.
- Strong caregiving skills demonstrated through compassionate patient service in long-term care facilities like nursing homes or assisted living communities.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare teams and educate patients about their care plans while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
