We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Referral Coordinator/Patient Service Representative to join our healthcare team. Duties
- Coordinate and process patient referrals by verifying insurance coverage, obtaining necessary authorizations, and ensuring timely communication between providers and patients
- Manage electronic health records (EHR) systems to accurately document patient information, referral details, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and prior authorization requirements using health insurance policies and managed care guidelines
- Assist patients with appointment scheduling, answering inquiries related to insurance coverage, billing procedures, and medical terminology
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure accurate CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) codes, and proper documentation for billing purposes
- Maintain thorough knowledge of medical office procedures, medical coding standards, and health insurance policies to support efficient operations
- Support the medical office team by managing incoming calls, updating patient information in EMR/EHR systems, and ensuring compliance with all clinical confidentiality policies
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office setting or as a Patient Service Representative with strong knowledge of health insurance policies and managed care processes
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) for documentation and communication tasks
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EHR management systems) and medical billing/coding procedures using CPT codes and ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10)
- Strong understanding of insurance verification processes, prior authorization procedures, and clinical confidentiality policies
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically with patients and healthcare providers
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and health insurance policies is highly desirable
- Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
