HHM Talent is assisting a client who is searching for a Controller in Chattanooga, TN.
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting department and oversee the organization's financial operations.
The ideal candidate will be a servant leader who builds strong relationships, takes ownership of responsibilities from start to finish, and approaches challenges with curiosity.
This is a full-time, fully on-site position.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department

Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, and cash-management activities

Maintain the general ledger and review journal entries for accuracy and completeness

Prepare and review monthly financial statements

Produce journal entries, financial reports, and profit-and-loss statements by location

Ensure all locations accurately roll up into the organization's consolidated financial results

Take full ownership of the annual audit, including preparation, coordination, and communication with external auditors

Process biweekly payroll; payroll tax filings are handled separately

Prepare and file applicable sales tax returns

Assist leadership with the annual budgeting process

Monitor fixed assets and capital spending in relation to approved budgets

Ensure balance-sheet accounts are properly reconciled and supported

Provide oversight and analysis related to applicable cost-accounting activities

Continue improving accounting operations, including the organization's accounts-payable automation initiative

Strengthen internal controls and ensure consistent accounting practices across all locations

Identify accounting and business-process improvements and ensure initiatives are completed successfully

Cross-train team members to improve coverage, collaboration, and departmental effectiveness
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for general ledger accounting, financial reporting, audits, and month-end close

Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, treasury, payroll, sales tax, fixed assets, and balance-sheet reconciliations

Experience supporting a multi-location organization is strongly preferred

Exposure to cost accounting is preferred

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP/Great Plains is helpful but not required

Experience with a comparable ERP system, such as Sage or NetSuite, will also be considered
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $120,000–$140,000, based on experience

Incentive opportunity: 5% of base salary
