Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and more.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all dental tools are ready for use according to infection prevention management protocols.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including dental x-ray procedures and 3D scans, while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic; ensure accurate documentation of medical history, vital signs, and treatment notes.
- Maintain clinical confidentiality policies while handling sensitive medical documentation and medical coding tasks.
- Assist with dental instrument processing, sterilization procedures, and aseptic techniques to uphold the highest standards of infection control.
- Support front desk operations as a dental receptionist when needed, including scheduling appointments and managing patient flow.
- Educate patients on oral health care practices and post-treatment instructions using clear dental terminology.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare infection prevention standards and clinical confidentiality policies at all times.
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry procedures.
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques, including chairside assisting, four-handed dentistry, and dental sterilization procedures.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic; experience with medical records management is highly desirable.
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners safely and effectively.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Knowledge of infection prevention management practices and healthcare infection control expertise.
- Certification or training in dental assisting is preferred; ongoing professional development in pediatric dentistry, oral surgery or endodontics is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients clearly about procedures and oral health tips.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and clinical confidentiality policies.
